***The Elect Hobie Webpage***

"I am a firm believer in the people.  If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts."  A. Lincoln

These pages will make you laugh, cry and mad as hell!
SORRY... No pretty pictures or even a good web design, but rather just lots of facts and original analysis for decision makers, opinion makers,

and those who are above the day-to-day political noise -- and way ahead of the conventional wisdom curve!

Uncommon facts and uncommon sense from America's heartland since 1996; Search Term: "Elect Hobie"

Many have found these pages to be very "sticky," often spending more than an hour going through the now 100's of pages to find the sense, clarity,  and "applause lines" -- especially now when everyone is calling for "change" (for example, see the Call to Action written in  1992!)

Over the years this site has evolved from a uber-blog spoof of  the 1996 presidential campaign to an in depth review of events and issues using a unique form of original analysis with excerpts from leading commentators, longer in-depth articles, and regular-person letters to the editor.  Also over time our attention has shifted from reforming the way we finance campaigns, to the effects of spending all that money on 30 second television ads that are too often designed to misinform rather than inform.  But now much more research, analysis and thought has led to a new website at www.concernedcitizensguide.com which introduces The Concerned Citizen's Guide to Our American Democracy, What's gone Wrong and How to Fix It which raises fundamental questions:  What role can The People realistically play in any democracy;  if The People do not control our American Democracy, who does; and what can be done to make our American Democracy work better?

The bottom line is "real change" requires structural reforms to the present system which is designed to protect incumbents, the two party system, and the substantial influence of special interests on public policy.  But since the needed structural reforms are outside of what insiders believe is politically viable, there are only two options:  (1) wait for a catastrophe to expand the parameters of what is possible, or (2) bring pressure from outside the system by a knowledgeable few -- including you -- to make what is needed, possible.

NEWS:  MCCAIN PROMISES A QUESTION HOUR FIRST PROPOSED HERE IN 2004

in an analysis of three problems with our present Democracy

Understanding G. W. Bush (Is Emotional Intelligence Enough?)

In a speech to the National Religious Broadcasters on March 11, 2008 President GW Bush talked about Iraq saying “we removed a lethal threat to our national security. The decision to remove Saddam Hussein was the right decision early in my presidency; it is the right decision at this point in my presidency; and it will forever be the right decision.”  This is revealing and troubling in several respects.  First, there is no evidence that Saddam was a threat to our national security in any lethal  way.  Second, all rational people now say if they knew then what they know now, they would not have supported a pre-emptive (or more accurately "preventative") war against Iraq.  Third, “forever” implies super-human knowledge -- or self-denial.  And fourth, the real question isn’t if invading Iran was a “good” or “right” thing to do, but whether, it was the wisest thing to do with our limited resources.  Indeed, the decision to invade Iraq was so flawed, and the after results so poorly planned and implemented that the fundamental question is how such a systemic failure of our government could have happened.  And the following pages propose that one of the reasons – and perhaps a significant one -- had nothing to do with facts or security or economics, but rather was emotional, i.e. George W’s complicated and competitive relationship with his Father.

George Walker Bush's presidency is marked by unprecedented policy shifts in almost every area,
and these have are real changes not just from Clinton's policies or the policies of other Democratic administrations, but also from past Republican administrations including his father's. The following pages explore how and why this has happened, including Key & Surprising Facts About the Bush Family History
Prescott S. Bush    G.H.W. Bush ("Father Bush")   G. W. Bush ("Son Bush")
And  the great untold – indeed, untouchable story of the Bush Father-Son relationship
and how it has affected Son Bush's decisions...
