These pages
will make you laugh, cry and mad as hell!
SORRY... No pretty pictures or even a good web
design, but rather just lots of facts and original analysis for decision makers,
opinion makers, and those who are above the day-to-day political noise --
and way ahead of the conventional wisdom curve!
Uncommon facts
and uncommon sense from
Many have found these pages to be very "sticky," often spending more than an hour going through the now 100's of pages to find the sense, clarity, and "applause lines" -- especially now when everyone is calling for "change" (for example, see the Call to Action written in 1992!)
Over the years this site has evolved from a uber-blog spoof of the 1996 presidential campaign to
an in depth review of events and issues using a unique form of original
analysis with excerpts from leading commentators, longer in-depth articles, and regular-person letters to the editor. Also
over time our attention has shifted from reforming the way we
finance campaigns, to the effects of spending all that money on 30 second
television ads that are too often designed to dis-inform rather
than inform, to evolving now into an analysis of the fundamental premise of democracy: if voters can make rational decisions or
rather are too easily manipulated into voting for special interest rather than
their interests and the common good. And so while this web
page will remain, our new focus and facts and analysis are now at Informed Voters
Assuming democracy is the best form of government, informed voters are the indispensable base,
There is a big difference between uninformed voters and dis-informed voters,
The best way to arrive at true facts and good decisions is through vigorous debate and discussion, and there are proven ways to get more of both into the process,
However, "real change" will also require focusing on ways to diminish dis-information and the influence of special interests.
While there are a myriad of books, papers and articles on problems with our government, this new website (soon to be a book) is unique in its analysis (especially of dis-information) and comprehensive scope.
"Real change" requires structural reforms -- and simply put, the problems are so large and so diverse and so systemic and indeed overwhelming that any attempt to find a larger solution appears to be but a quixotic quest. However, nothing will happen until a knowledgeable few -- including you -- take take the first steps, and like the Founding Fathers, have faith in the American people that when needed, they will awaken and reclaim the American dream and ideals.
NEWS: MCCAIN PROMISES A QUESTION HOUR FIRST PROPOSED HERE IN 2004
Understanding G. W. Bush (Is Emotional Intelligence Enough?)
In a speech to the National Religious Broadcasters on March 11, 2008 President GW Bush talked about Iraq saying “we removed a lethal threat to our national security. The decision to remove Saddam Hussein was the right decision early in my presidency; it is the right decision at this point in my presidency; and it will forever be the right decision.” This is revealing and troubling in several respects. First, there is no evidence that Saddam was a threat to our national security in any lethal way. Second, all rational people now say if they knew then what they know now, they would not have supported a pre-emptive (or more accurately "preventative") war against Iraq. Third, “forever” implies super-human knowledge -- or self-denial. And fourth, the real question isn’t if invading Iran was a “good” or “right” thing to do, but whether, it was the wisest thing to do with our limited resources. Indeed, the decision to invade Iraq was so flawed, and the after results so poorly planned and implemented that the fundamental question is how such a systemic failure of our government could have happened. And the following pages propose that one of the reasons – and perhaps a significant one -- had nothing to do with facts or security or economics, but rather was emotional, i.e. George W’s complicated and competitive relationship with his Father.
George Walker Bush's presidency is marked by unprecedented policy shifts
in almost every area, and
these have are real changes not just from Clinton's policies or the
policies of other Democratic administrations, but also from past
Republican administrations including his father's. The following pages
